Maternity Today is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to sharing evidence and resources with communities, health-care workers and midwives in developing countries. Our office is located in Ottawa, Canada but receives support from global health experts and midwives around the world. Our key priority areas include improving midwifery profession and institutional delivery, newborn adolescent health, community mobilization and advocacy for gender equality and adolescent health.

As part of our work, we also empower passionate health-care professionals to advocate and improve policies that enhance the quality of maternal and child health care in developing countries.

1. Campaign Fundraiser Volunteer

Position Overview:
Maternity Today (MT) is currently searching for a Campaign Fundraiser to join the team.The successful candidatewill organize activities to raise funds or otherwise solicit and gather monetary gifts for the organization from individuals or corporate donors, the role will also require raising awareness for the organization’s work, goals and financial needs.

The Campaign Fundraiser Volunteer will:

  • Create a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donors
  • Organize campaigns or events to solicit donations
  • Maintain records of donor information
  • Source, train, and recruit fundraisers
  • Ensure that all legal reporting requirements are satisfied
  • Compile or develop materials to submit to funding organizations
  • Develop strategies to encourage new or increased contributions
  • Partner with the graphics team to design or produce materials such as posters, newsletters to promote, market or advertise fundraising events

We are in the early stages of revamping strategies, structures and procedures so this role will be busy and expanding. You will have the opportunity to create new processesgeared towards organizational growth and development.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • A related degree in public relations, journalism, communications, English or business
  • Previous working experience in fundraising
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership and decision-making abilities

2. Board Secretary Volunteer

Maternity Today (MT) is currently searching for a Board Secretary to join the executive team as a director.The Board Secretary will support the executive team and board of directors at Maternity Today, he/she will organize and maintain the executive schedule and assist with performing a variety of administrative tasks. The goal is to contribute to the efficiency of the overall business by ensuring all assigned secretarial duties are executed timely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining executive’s agenda and assisting in planning appointments, board meetings, conferences etc
  • Maintaining meeting minutes and ensuring Annual General meeting logistics are maintained in collaboration with the Chair of the Board
  • Handling and prioritizing all outgoing or incoming correspondence
  • Maintaining electronic and paper records ensuring information is organized and accessible
  • Conducting research and prepare presentations or reports as assigned

Experience & Qualifications:

3.Volunteer Board Chair

Maternity Today (MT) is currently searching for a Volunteer Board Chair to join the executive team as a director.

Position Overview:
The Volunteer Board Chair will act as the chair of the Board of Directors, andwill carry out additional leadership duties relating to the functioning, responsibilities and effectiveness of the Board of Directors of the Maternity Today organization. The Volunteer Board Chair will assist and advise, providing independent, effective leadership to the Board in the governance of MT.

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to, advisingand providingsound counsel to the board members
  • Participate in strategic planning, SWOT analysis along with board and organizational evaluation process
  • Creationand advisementon agendas and related materials for Board meetings
  • Carry out duties delegated by the Board
  • Develop and implement processes and practices that support the deliberations of the Board in order that the Board may diligently fulfill its duties and conduct its work and affairs effectively and efficiently
  • Maintaining electronic and paper records ensuring information is organized and accessible
  • Assistwith the planning and achievement of the financial goals of Maternity Today, which may include working towards a specified budget, revenue generation or revenue sourcing
  • Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Board, such as policydevelopment or implementation
  • Mentor new appointees to the Board, and provide oversight, coaching and advice with a view to ensuring quality, consistency and accountability
  • Take on responsibility, as appropriate, for communication and coordination with Committee Chairs
  • Maintain current knowledge in Maternity Today’s field of expertise and participate in professional development opportunities

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Political Science, Humanities and relevant education and experience
  • The Volunteer Board Chair is expected to possess all the qualifications of a Member and additional leadership abilities
  • Proven ability to undertake organizational strategic planning and evaluation
  • Ability to oversee the implementation of a strategic vision by ensuring appropriate plans are implemented, in order to deliver efficient, effective and high-quality services
  • A comprehensive understanding of Maternity Today’s corporate policies and supporting procedures
  • An understanding of governmental values and a commitment to working within the government’s accountability structure
  • Knowledge of, and displayed commitment to, sound governance practices
  • An understanding of sound financial and operational business processes and practices
  • Familiarity with basic research methods and reporting techniques

4.Director Funding, Partnership and Development

Position Overview:

The Director Funding, Partnership and Development will ensure Maternity Today develops and maintains strong and effective partnerships and purposeful relationships that are relevant to organizational strategies. The role will promote the vision and objectives of Maternity Today to all Stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a Partnership Strategy that supports Maternity Today’s Strategy and that ensures the very best of relationships with partners, donors and others.
  • Ensures that all personnel understand the importance of the Partnership Strategy and how it relates to them, and that they are fully involved in its implementation.
  • Ensures excellent relations with key government partners and put in place systems that maintain them. Ensures effective engagement of strategic partners, especially Society groups and traditional leadership.
  • Develops strategic partnership-building approaches with government, Donor, Civil Society, Corporate, and Maternity Today stakeholders.
  • Facilitates the strategic engagement with relevant International and National stakeholders on conservation and related issues.
  • Maintains a database of information relating to Partners’ and, Donors’, individual requirements and goals, and such other details as are relevant to the development and maintenance of those partnerships.
  • Develops and manages Memorandum of Understandings as may arise from partnerships.
  • Working with the Fundraising & Partnership Manager, engage in fundraising activities for Maternity Today programs.
  • Write grants and proposals with the ability to get positive results.

Working Relationships
Internal: Interacts with the Maternity Today Fundraising and Partnership team and executives regularly.

External: Interacts with National Governmental Institutions, Non-Government Institutions, Academic Institutions, the media, donors, Specialists, Consultants and other Stakeholders

Experience & Qualifications

  • University Degree in Business Management, Development Studies or related fields.
  • Proven track record in successfully managing Inter-Institutional relations, preferably in the development field.
  • At least 5 years professional experience in Inter-Institutional relationship managementand knowledge and experience of the realities of development issues, Donor Institutions, and the Not-for-Profit sector.
  • Excellent understanding of development partnerships, fund-raising, donor strategies, functions and international relations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and public speaking skills.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, and ability to maintain strong relationships, Strong cross-cultural skills and versatility in dealing with different types of partnership.
  • Strong ability to write grants and proposals with positive results.
  • Excellent knowledge of available grants for international development projects.
  • Thoughtfulness and diplomacy skills to engage with high profile partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience working with international organizations and bodies such as UN, WHO.
  • Strong knowledge of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
