OUR VISION
We envision a world where everyone has access to quality maternal and child health services, where no woman dies from preventable pregnancy-related complications, and where everyone leads a healthy sexual and reproductive life.
OUR MISSION
We champion sexual and reproductive health and rights worldwide, mobilizing communities most in need to break through barriers and forge their own path to a healthier future.
OUR GOAL
To improve and promote the health of women and newborns and to strengthen the quality of maternal and newborn health through superior advocacy, research, and education.
OUR VALUES
- Respect: Everything we do is built on a foundation of understanding and respecting the values, beliefs, knowledge, and capabilities of our staff, our local partners, and the people we serve.
- Courage: We go where others often won’t among the most marginalized populations, in the most challenging environments, and in the hardest-to-reach region and do what others often don’t; confronting obstacles head-on and challenging the status quo to achieve our mission.
- Collaboration: We embrace diverse perspectives and disciplines, joining with partners at the local, national, and global levels towards a common vision and the realization of transformational change.
- Innovation: Our staff and partners seek out the most effective solutions, piloting new approaches and adapting current practices to respond to the ever-evolving nature of our work and the communities we serve.
- Integrity: We earn the trust of donors, partners, governments, and the people we serve by rigorously measuring performance, sharing our results, and holding ourselves accountable.
OBJECTIVES
In 2015 the UN Member States committed to working toward achieving 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) by the year 2030. Of the 17 goals, some include eliminating poverty, worldwide hunger, clean energy, climate control, and equality among all genders and ages. While Maternity Today supports and admires the initiative to achieve all SDGs by 2030, we primarily focus on SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 5, Gender Equality.
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
The UN’s third sustainable development goal is vast in its targeted achievement. Some health targets include minimizing the global mortality rate; end preventable deaths among newborns, young children, and mothers, while also reducing neonatal mortality; end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other neglected tropical diseases; ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services. Maternity Today is committed to educating and declaring a call to action to do our part in working toward a global achievement of SDG 3. From our advocacy for Midwives and Respectful Maternity Care, to providing information on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Antenatal Care, Immunization, and Proper Maternal Care, Maternity Today is doing its part in working toward achieving Good Health and Well-Being on a global scale.
SDG 5: Gender Equality
The fifth sustainable development goal focuses on Gender Equality, eliminating discrimination and violence against women around the world. The UN views the goal for Gender Equality vital in achieving the other 16 goals. The UN aims to ensure fundamental human rights among all genders, ending violence and discrimination, ensuring sexual and reproductive rights, ensuring a right to education and employment, among many others. Maternity Today views Gender Equality is of utmost importance when ensuring proper care for mothers and their children. We advocate for the Midwife profession, proper and respectful maternity care, as well as the right to know and protect one’s body. Maternity Today is a strong supporter for ensuring equality acro
