Sarah Topps ( MPH MBA )

Sarah Topps is a public health professional, business strategist, and published author with many years of experience across different industries. Sarah holds both a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Simon Fraser University, and an honours degree in International Development and Economics from McGill University. She wrote her thesis on why behaviour change was the key barrier to achieving worldwide clean drinking water and other global public health challenges, and has been passionate about using behavioural science to improve the lives of others ever since. Currently, Sarah holds a joint appointment with Mitacs and Innovate Calgary, to support innovation in the life sciences and social innovation sectors.

A deeply held belief in the importance of science-based decision making motivated her to lead thousands of people in the March for Science in Vancouver (2017). Sarah has worked extensively with government, private industry, non-profits, First Nations groups, universities, and young people. She is passionate about authentic leadership, and raising the profile of other leaders in healthcare through her role as Co-Chair of the Emerging Health Leaders (Calgary). Sarah is also an adjunct faculty member at Pacific Coast University, where she developed their core course on Workplace Wellness.

Of all her past projects, Sarah is most proud of her ongoing contribution to Healthy Child Uganda, a maternal and child health not-for-profit that has reached over a million people in rural Uganda. This role deeply moved her and inspires her leadership as Vice Chair for Maternity Today.

Gelila Gebru

My name is Gelila Gebru. I have a Master’s Degree in Educational Planning and Management and BA in Literature. I am a certified Project Manager and furthered these skills through additional professional training in Leadership, Strategic Planning and Management, Financial/Grants Management, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, and Program Evaluation.

I have worked in a variety of Program Management positions in public health research at the institute, local, and international organizations including at the United Nations. I have spent my career in developing-world countries focusing on project management and coordination and I have seen that reproductive and maternal health has been a major challenge which drives me to contribute and be part of a solution to this problem.

I am passionate about women and children’s health and education issues and honored to be part of the team at Maternity Today.

Maram  Ghanayem

Maram Ghanayem has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting.

As  a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in the UK, Maram comes to Maternity Today with over twelve years of valuable experience. She has established a well-rounded background in finance starting in banking, corporate and most recently in senior management in the healthcare sector in the areas of Compliance, Governance, Corporate Law, Finance, and Management.

Maram is also a champion in the corporate world, where she has assumed the role of a Corporate Secretary and Director of Investors Relations at a shareholding company in UAE.

Bethina

Bethina obtained her bachelors of science degree at the University of Toronto, with a focus on psychology and global health.

Afterwards, she went on to earn a Master’s in Public Health at McMaster University. She then worked for a local organization in Humjibre, Ghana, where she managed various health programs.

In Ghana, Bethina learned first-hand about the importance of capacity building, knowledge exchange with local communities, and the difficulties of maintaining adequate maternal and child health in low resource settings. Now, Bethina is a health promoter at a public health unit- working to enable individuals to improve their health. Bethina is passionate about maternal and child health (especially in relation to vulnerable populations both within and outside of Canada), health promotion, and research.
