Projects & Initiatives
1. Advocacy
#WhatMidwivesWant
Midwives have an integral and inseparable component of the health care delivery system, while playing a vital role in improving maternal and neonatal health worldwide. Despite their commitment to providing the best care for women, babies and their families, midwives often report feeling disrespected and disenfranchised in their professional and personal lives (Shimoda et al, 2020)
Maternity Today is proud to support #WhatMidwivesWant. Partnering with Improved Midwifery Care Access Initiative and the University of Alberta, Maternity Today seeks to support midwives around the world, to amplify their voices, and advocate for their essential profession. The #WhatMidwivesWant campaign is run by young midwives, who want to be involved meaningfully to improve midwifery care. There are many ways to get involved and join Maternity Today in supporting the #WhatMidwivesWant campaign! To learn more, click here.
Maternal Mental Health
Maternity Today is an active advocate for World Maternal Health Day. We strive to draw attention to essential mental health concerns for mothers and families. Together we can raise awareness, change attitudes, and become maternal mental health advocates! Ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
Maternity Today believes in creating a just world in which women and girls have the same rights as men and boys. We believe in using advocacy and education to confront some of the most difficult issues, such as FGM. Female genital mutilation has zero health benefits, and it is a source of serious health complications for millions of women and girls globally. Maternity Today urges all to visit the World Health Organization to become educated on FGM and begin their advocacy for ending this unjust practice.
2. Research and Innovation
Global Health Journal
Maternity Today is looking forward to launching the Global Maternal Newborn Journal! The journal is a research-based, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary publication that will be published quarterly. We are proud to team up with global contributors to share knowledge and provide a form that promotes positive maternal, child, and newborn health. Check in again soon, for news on our upcoming issue.
Digital Health Innovation
Maternity Today is developing a digital platform for professionals and skilled birth attendants. Our platform will allow for safer and improved deliveries for mothers and newborns!
